Getting genital herpes is not the end of your life

I was 15 years old when I first got infected with genital herpes. I lost my virginity with my boyfriend at the time, just to find out a couple of months later he had been cheating on me with many girls and that he had infected me with this virus. When I had sex with him, I didn’t see any genital herpes symptoms on him, but little did I knew at the time that genital herpes symptoms are not present all the time in people who carry the virus. They can be suppressed either with genital herpes treatments, or the body doesn’t produce them.

After about two weeks I had sex for the first time I began to get some genital herpes symptoms, of course I didn’t knew what they were. I got a little bit of a fever and swollen glands. I thought I had the flu. However, lots of blisters started to appear around my genitals and I realized this was something else. I felt so scared when I saw those blisters that then broke and left some painful itchy ulcers around my vagina. I called and scheduled an appointment a gynecologist. It was my first visit to that kind of doctor and she told me I what I had were genital herpes symptoms. She explained to me what the virus was, and what genital herpes symptoms were, and how I could get some genital herpes treatments, but that the virus would live in me indefinitely. There is no way of killing the virus. I felt like I was being diagnosed with a deadly disease and that my life was over. The doctor, who by the way was very supportive, explained to me that this virus was far away from being a deadly disease and that I could just stick to the genital herpes treatments and the outbreaks would be under control.

I called my boyfriend and told him about my genital herpes outbreak symptoms, but he said I was probably going around with other men because he didn’t have this disease. The liar. I then realized I hadn’t used any genital herpes prevention because the time I was together with my boyfriend we didn’t even use a condom. I was so foolish and in love and trusted him so much I didn’t think at the moment about genital herpes prevention and then had to suffer the consequences of my actions and get genital herpes treatments for the rest of my life.

Now five years have passed since I was diagnosed with the virus. I haven’t spoken since to the guy who didn’t have genital herpes prevention with me. I have a very beautiful life and having lived through that scary experience made me appreciate everything more. I take my genital herpes treatments daily for some periods, and thanks to that genital herpes treatment I don’t suffer from genital herpes symptoms anymore. Although I am still a very young girl, I live much more responsibly and talk a lot to people about genital herpes prevention and genital herpes treatments.

I think people everyday all around the world should be more informed about genital herpes prevention and genital herpes treatments. I think the best way to ensure genital herpes prevention is to not have sex with somebody until you have such a good level of intimacy with that person and you can go together and take tests to make sure both people are clean. As for me, I like to ensure genital herpes prevention to other people. I am not a sexually active person, but when I do find a person that I would like to have relations with, I will be honest, speak about my condition and wear a condom every time to keep that person from getting the virus as well.
